New timetables in operation due to landslip

As a result of the landslip in the Gotherington area there are now new timetables in operation until further notice. The first one to take effect is the blue timetable. This will operate for the first time on 29th April. The revised red and green timetables will be put on line as they become available.

During the period of these timetables Cheltenham Race Course station will not be operating, Gotherington Halt becomes the southern terminus of the railway. Further details of other events later in the year will be added to the site as soon as possible.

Congratulations for really excellent and speedy notices of how the (dreadful) problem is being dealt with.
    Very best wishes

    Dear Sir.

I am somewhat concerned by the landslip at Gotherington & fully appreciate the potential operational/safety impact on the railway - in particular the impact on the GWSR 175 event.

This I believe, is a brilliant marketing/support opportunity that the railway has to grasp NOW!

I would hope (as a shareholder) that the GWSR board have already prepared the plea for help to all potential supporters/shareholders to SAVE THE GWSR 175 GALA!.

For me the railway has time (4 weeks) to save the 175 evenrt & run through to Cheltenham. If I were asked as a shareholder to support the finance of fixing the landslip at Gotherington in time for the event I personally would respond with the following:

    1) Providing the railway re-instates services safely to Cheltenham prior to the GWSR 175 gala.
    2) Mike Dodd will personally loan the railway an interest free a sum of £10,000.
    3) This sum is to be used for the sole purpose of infrastructure "correction" at Gotherington.
    4) This interest free sum (£10,000) is to be made available to the GWSR from 1st May 2010 & paid back to Mike Dodd on 1st Sept 2010 (With zero interest).
    5) I cannot cope with the railway not operating to Cheltenham on this a celebration of all things GWR 175 - Please consider this proposal seriously - can the GWSR afford to underperform because of minor (rabbit)adversity? - look at the investment already made in advertising!

Lets ensure this event is the success it deserves to be!

Please advise soonest if you wish to take this genuine offer forward or, if not, confirm to all the shareholders why it is not possible to resolve the issue prior to the 175 event. (Money can help resolve most things!)
    Kind regards & best wishes
    Mike Dodd

    Mike

I thought as Chairman that I should reply to your very positive comments.

We are very aware of potential impact on GWR 175 and have a series of meetings underway to prepare plans b, c and d. We are also designing appeals to shareholders and for donations

I note your kind loan offer but am afraid it just wont work. Apart from the fact that if we borrowed £10K now, we would mot have resources to repay in September, there are the pure logistics. It likely to be another 10 days before we have the engineers report on cause(s) and remedial options and it is then likely the work may take up to 16 weeks. This just doesnt fot the GWR 175 dates.

    Regards

    Malcolm

A possible solution - re-align the track and install safety critical automated monitoring - I'm a volunteer at Nene, and run Accolade Measurement - we'd be very happy to lend monitoring equipment (datalogger, electrolevels etc) free of charge to help save the 175 event without undue cost. 01707 377448 if you need.

    Best wishes,
    Alex Alder.

Thank you for your kind offer. I regret that we have unequivocal professional advice not to use the line.

Barring a miracle coming out of the ground investigations, the line south of Gotherington Halt will be closed during GWR 175. Alternative timetables have been drawn up and we still plan that 12 locos will feature together with a range of offline interest items at both Toddington and Winchcombe
