Don't miss the GWR's Autumn Diesel Gala if you are in tune with
the throb, roar and whine of an impressive range of main-line
motive power. An intensive timetable (follow link at the
bottom for a copy) presents some irresistible combinations, not
least of which is treble-headed class 37
services!
Apart from the resident Class 20, 24, 37s and 47s, visiting
'Crompton' 33109 and class 37 37248 locomotives (the latter in West
Coast maroon livery) provides added appeal. In all, eight
locomotives will be in action each day. There will be plenty
of opportunity for cab visits throughout each day.
But a word of warning - most locomotives aren't equipped with
steam-heat boilers so the trains could be chilly. However,
the on-train buffet will provide plenty of warming refreshment,
especially the choc-and-cream RBR which will be producing its
now-legendary bacon baps.
If you are line-siding, please make sure you are in possession
of a lineside pass (obtainable from Toddington booking office) and
a high-viz jacket. If you've forgotten yours, the Toddington
station shop can help you out!
