Striking the right note at Toddington

As if the engine that stars as Hogwarts Castle isn't enough, the GWR is hosting the world's biggest transportable concert organ over the weekend of 30th and 31st May.

The organ, named Victory, will be playing on both days and for an evening concert, including a video show on Saturday 30th May.  It will be joined by sister 73-key organ Locomotion for the weekend.

Victory takes the art of concert organ building to a whole new level.  It was created following a partnership between the Dutch Verbeeck Company and Willem Kelders.  Completed in 2003, Victory is a 118-key organ comprising no fewer than 1,133 pipes, 23 lines of pipes with different sounds, kettle drum, vibraphone, xylophone, bass drum, cymbals, military drums, castanets, of which the last four are double percussion and, to top it all, 18 tubular bells.  This means that Victory is a huge step beyond what can be achieved with a conventional concert organ - and it certainly has an extraordinary repertoire.

How about pieces like Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen;  Beat it by Micheal Jackson, or complete concerts by Mozart, Von Supppe or Rossini. Even the Harry Potter theme can be played - highly appropriate given the presence of the Harry Potter locomotive Hogwarts Castle on the GWR.

This is an event that really shouldn't be missed.  If you're one of those who isn't all that keen on concert organs, Victory, and her sister Locomotion, will change your mind.  And if you are a fan, then these two magnificent works of the organ-builder's art will blow your mind!

This is well worth a visit even just for the day but on Saturday evening the special video concert takes place and at about 8.30pm the video show takes place. Don't miss this exiting evening with the World's Largest Transportable Concert Organ - the 118 key Verbeeck Victory and her sister, 73 key Verbeeck organ, Locomotion.

Entry is free (but donations will be welcomed!) - just turn up at Toddington station.  It might be an idea to bring a picnic and, although there will be benches to sit on you might be more comfortable if you bring picnic chairs!  Refreshments will also be available.
