Heavy snowfalls disrupted much of Britain's railway network and on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, no trains ran. But that's because it is the 'close season' when the line is closed for winter maintenance.

Despite the weather, the hardy Permanent Way Gang - who, after all are well used to working in all weathers - were making changes to the track layout north of Toddington station on 7th February, despite more than six inches of the cold, white stuff. This is in anticipation of trains running towards Laverton and Broadway, over the Stanway viaduct. That should become reality in 2010, when the first couple of miles to Laverton are expected to open to traffic.

The GWR opens for its 25th operating season on 7th March with the Green Timetable.  And to celebrate that Silver Jubilee, anyone aged 25 or under can travel absolutely free on any day during March.

Here are a few pictures by Ian Crowder of the GWR looking just a little different!
