Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway
to carry its one millionth passengers this weekend!
For one lucky person and his or her
family, a visit to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway this
weekend is going to be extra special. Could you be the one?
That's because they will be the one
millionth traveller on the line, which now operates diesel and
steam trains over ten miles between Cheltenham and Toddington.
Explains commercial director Malcolm
Temple, who will be greeting the lucky visitor: "The GWR ran its
first train almost exactly 25 years ago. That was a very modest
affair - just a tiny tank engine and one coach running over a few
hundred yards of track.
"Now we carry around 70,000 passengers
per year and on Saturday 18th April, the GWR is expecting its
one-millionth customer. Of course, a visit to the GWR is
always an amazing experience but for this person and other members
of their party it will be an extraordinary day!
"Not only will we present them with a
special 'golden' ticket and give them the full VIP treatment,
but they'll be given free membership of the railway as well
as lunch or dinner for two on a date of their choice, on our
acclaimed 'Elegant Excursions' dining train," explains Malcolm.
"This is a very special occasion, not just for the winner, but for
the railway too."
