The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway will be holding one of its popular Transport Nostalgia Days on Sunday 27th June, when a range of classic and historic vehicles dating from the 1930’s to the 1980’s will be on display at Winchcombe Station.

These will include Motor Cars, Commercial Vehicles, Motorcycles, Public Service Vehicles and Agricultural Equipment. There will also be opportunities to view other memorabilia, visit Winchcombe Signal Box and the GWR’s Carriage & Wagon Works. Additionally, visitors can take advantage of the picnic facilities and buffet to relax and watch the trains go by in the confines of this beautifully rebuilt station. As an added ‘bonus’, visitors are invited to wear a uniform of their choice, so hopefully, there will be some very interesting sights indeed!

Whilst entrance to the event is free, there will be no parking at Winchcombe Station, so it is recommended that visitors access the event by train from either Cheltenham Racecourse or Toddington Stations, where there are large free car parks. The railway will be running regular steam hauled services throughout the day, commencing at 10.20 from Toddington and 11.10 from Cheltenham Racecourse, plus a frequent diesel hauled shuttle service between Toddington and Winchcombe Stations. For those purchasing full length of line round trip tickets, the railway’s fare structure allows for unlimited travel on the day, which will enable travellers to experience both steam and diesel traction if they so wish. It should also be noted that family round trip tickets (2 adults and up to 3 children aged 5 to 15) also qualify for the unlimited travel offer. Under 5’s travel free if accompanied by a fare paying adult.

Spokesman for the railway, Wayne Finch, comments “with historic vehicles, historic trains, displays, station shops, on train buffet facilities and the very popular ‘Flag & Whistle’ Tea Rooms at Toddington, we hope to provide a nostalgic day out for both families and enthusiasts alike. All profits will go towards the further development of this 100% volunteer run railway, which plans to extend its line to Broadway in the next few years. The railway is known as ‘The Friendly Line In The Cotswolds’, and June 27th should be an ideal day to make a visit”.
