Welcome to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway

The friendly line in the Cotswolds

Celebrating 25 years of operation

Welcome to our brand-new website!

As you can see, it is completely different to the old site: but much of the information has been moved over and updated.  We hope you'll find it easier to navigate and find what you are looking for. There are many new features coming up too - for instance, you'll be able to buy your tickets online and we're planning a new online shop. Our galleries, too, are being completely refreshed over the coming weeks. Enjoy exploring the new site - and let us know what you think by contacting us here.

About the GWR: The GWR is an all-volunteer steam and diesel heritage railway in the English Cotswolds. Since 1981, the volunteers have restored over 10 miles of line, together with platforms, buildings, steam and diesel locomotives and rolling stock. But it was in 1984 - 25 yeas ago this year - that the first services ran over just 700 yards of track at Toddington, using a tiny tank locomotive and one coach.

Today, the railway runs a comprehensive timetable of services as well as a host of special events. These include steam and diesel galas, visits by Postman Pat and Fireman Sam , as well as our popular 'Cheltenham Fryer' Fish & Chip Specials, Elegant Excursions dining trains and of course the acclaimed Santa Specials.

Visit the GWR at Toddington, Winchcombe, or Cheltenham Race Course stations. Find out how to get to the GWR by car or by public transport.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our web site. If you are unable to find the information you require, try our new search tool which is available at the top of every page or contact us using the details on the contact page. We look forward to you visiting our railway.

Become a member and volunteer!

The GWR may have been running for 25 years but there's still potential for growth! The tracks are down north from Toddington, over spectacular Stanway Viaduct as far as Laverton on the way to Broadway.  Train services and maintenance facilities are developing all the time. You can play a part by simply becoming a member - or you can choose one of lots of ways to help run and grow the largest volunteer-run heritage railway in the country!

You can own a piece of the railway too!

You can own a part of the most exciting standard-gauge railway in the country by becoming a shareholder of the owning company, Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway Plc!  For a shareholding of as little as £100 you help the railway expand to Broadway and beyond. You can make your voice heard too by voting on key decisions at the railway's AGM.
